Specifications

Royal - 1922 Kg - World Record
GAEC Jaffré (Loir et Cher (France - photo UPRA))

The Maine-Anjou breed counts about 90.000 (more than two-year old) females including 75.000 females in the Pays de la Loire area. Its meat rank second in its region and fifth in France. The selected group counts 11.000 cows with 8.000 cows participating to the elaborate service called U.P.R.A. 11.000 cows are put through tests.

French breeders wants to have a huge Maine-Anjou format, fast growth and a lots of muscular, without having to big thighs. This last is not wished in France (big territories, price of a caesarean,...). In the contrary, in Belgium, a lot of breeders prefer the big thighs-type breed. This produces a marbled or braised meat, a nice pronounced red colour. Moreover, this type of breed gives an enormous weight-volume relation.

With almost 6% of twins birth, this race belongs to the most ferticle in the world.
